What are types of learning styles?

Learn Learning Education Studying Concept

Different learning styles define how people learn and process information, which helps to create successful and interesting learning experiences. Understanding and using these styles entails particular processes. What is VARK? Below are types of learning styles according to VARK Model:

  • Visual learners: They learn best by viewing and seeing images, graphs, charts, films, and so on.
  • Auditory learners: They learn best by hearing and listening to things like lectures, podcasts, audio books, music, and so forth.
  • Reading/writing learners: They learn best when they read and write materials such as books, articles, notes, essays, and so on.
  • Kinesthetic learners: Hands-on activities, experiments, simulations, games, and other hands-on activities help them learn best.

Adapt your teaching or learning approaches to apply the various learning techniques. As an example:

Visual learners

Use visual aids like as photos, charts, maps, infographics, and so on to demonstrate concepts and ideas for visual learners. Encourage students to create illustrations and diagrams on the board or in their notes as well.

Auditory learners

To communicate concepts and ideas to auditory learners, employ audio materials such as lectures, podcasts, audio books, music, and so on. You may also ask them to repeat new knowledge to you or to themselves.

Reading/writing learners

To impart concepts and ideas to reading/writing students, employ text-based resources such as books, articles, notes, essays, and so on. Encourage them to read aloud or write summaries of what they’ve learnt.

Kinesthetic learners

Hands-on activities like as experiments, simulations, games, and so on can be used to illustrate concepts and ideas to kinesthetic learners. You may also urge kids to walk around and learn with tangible items.

Understanding and utilizing different learning styles necessitates taking into account characteristics such as motivation, personality, IQ, and culture.

Learning styles are not set and can shift over time based on the context and substance of the learning. This also include your good study habits. As a result, being adaptable and innovative is essential while teaching or studying with diverse students.
